About the Practice

About Bold Bite Orthodontics, Orthodontist in Jacksonville

The orthodontist families meet at Bold Bite is not a rotating associate or a brand name on a sign — it is Dr. Martin Greenberg or his wife Dr. Trang Cao, every visit, from the first consultation through the last retainer check. Both doctors trained together at Boston University School of Dental Medicine, completed CODA-accredited orthodontic residencies at Jacksonville University, and opened Bold Bite in March 2023 as a de novo boutique practice in Jacksonville. Two specialists review every treatment plan together. Vatech Green CT imaging is included with every new-patient consultation for patients under 18 when it is part of the clinical workup. Grin Scope remote monitoring replaces routine in-office visits. Conservative treatment decisions grounded in years of whole-mouth clinical experience, not corporate sales quotas.

The Practice Story

Two Doctors, One Shared Training Path, and a Practice Built for Their Own Kids

Bold Bite Orthodontics did not begin as a business plan. It began in a pre-clinical lab at Boston University School of Dental Medicine, where Dr. Martin Greenberg and Dr. Trang Cao met as dental students and discovered they shared the same stubborn conviction: orthodontic care should be personal, conservative, and technology-forward — not quota-driven, not cookie-cutter, and not outsourced to a rotating associate. Dr. Greenberg graduated Cum Laude. Dr. Cao graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Both doctors then chose the same orthodontic residency program at Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics — a CODA-accredited specialty program widely regarded as one of the most clinically rigorous in the Southeast. Dr. Cao completed her Specialty Certificate and earned a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS), going on to become a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics — a distinction held by fewer than half of practicing orthodontists in the country. Dr. Greenberg completed the same Specialty Certificate, earned an MS in Orthodontics, and spent an additional year on a Research Fellowship investigating tech-driven treatment workflows. He is ABO Board Eligible, with the clinical examination scheduled for Fall 2026.

Dr. Greenberg spent more than eight years practicing general dentistry before specializing, which is a less common path in orthodontics than families might assume. That general-dentistry background shapes how Bold Bite treats every case: orthodontic decisions are made in the context of the whole mouth — cavity risk, restorative implications, wear patterns, periodontal health, and occlusal stability — not just whether the front teeth look aligned in a photo.

Bold Bite opened in March 2023 as a de novo boutique practice at 14035 Beach Blvd, Suite 104 in Jacksonville, convenient to St. Johns Town Center, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and Ponte Vedra. The two doctors co-own the practice. There is no parent company, no DSO, no silent investor. The clinical standard they follow is the one their own training demanded, and the office they built is the one they would want to bring their own two children to — captured in the practice philosophy tagline “Built the office they'd want to bring their kids to.”

The Jacksonville community responded quickly. Within the first two years Bold Bite reached 174 five-star Google reviews, treated more than 6,000 case-visits, and built a local patient base that spans beach-side families, St. Johns Town Center professionals, active-duty military from Mayport Naval Station, and Spanish-speaking and Vietnamese-speaking households whose first consultation is often with Dr. Cao or a bilingual team member on the scheduling team.

The Bold Bite Experience

Orthodontic Care, Jacksonville Boutique-Style

Every detail of Bold Bite was designed around one question: what would Dr. Greenberg and Dr. Cao want if they were bringing their own children in? The amenities below are the answer.

Two Specialists on Every Case

Dr. Greenberg and Dr. Cao review every new CBCT scan and treatment plan together. Families effectively get a built-in second opinion on every case — not a rotating associate, not a remote plan reviewer, not an algorithm. Two board-trained orthodontists, one office, one plan.

In-House 3D Printing

Clear retainers, custom bands, indirect bonding trays, and patient fidget toys are printed on-site, in-house. The custom-bands protocol eliminates the separate spacer appointment that most practices require — one less visit, one less wait.

Grin Scope Remote Monitoring

Every patient is enrolled in Grin Scope, a smartphone-app-based remote monitoring platform. A 5-minute at-home scan replaces one or two routine in-office visits per year — fewer missed school days and less drive time for parents shuttling between Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Ponte Vedra.

Kid-First Office Design

The practice tagline captures the approach: “Bold Bite treats every child like one of their own.” The office was planned around a kid-friendly waiting area, parents chairside for every visit, complimentary Wi-Fi, and in-house 3D printing of fidget toys for anxious younger patients. Dr. Greenberg and Dr. Cao bring their own two children to the same office.

Bilingual and Multilingual Team

Dr. Cao is fluent in Vietnamese. Dr. Greenberg speaks conversational Spanish, and the scheduling team includes a native Cuban Spanish speaker. Jacksonville’s Vietnamese and Spanish-speaking families receive consultations in their preferred language, without a translator or a language-line delay.

Free First Consultation for Kids

The first appointment at Bold Bite is free for patients under 18. Adults pay a $100 consultation fee, applied toward treatment cost if the adult decides to start. Either way, the visit includes a low-dose Vatech Green CT scan when it is part of the clinical workup for patients under 18, a digital iTero or Allied Star scan if relevant, a full treatment plan, and a transparent fee quote with insurance breakdown.

Clinical Philosophy

How Dr. Greenberg and Dr. Cao Practice Orthodontics

Both doctors bring specialist-level diagnosis and conservative, whole-mouth thinking to every case. The philosophy callouts below are how that actually translates into clinical decisions — and into the cases Bold Bite chooses not to treat.

What Makes This Practice Different

Bold Bite is owned and operated by two orthodontists, a husband-and-wife team who personally treat every patient with no rotating associates. Because the doctors are also the owners, their recommendation is never influenced by cost: the practice charges the same fee whether a patient chooses braces or Angel Aligners, so the recommendation reflects what is genuinely best for each individual case. Every consultation also includes airway screening, which most practices do not offer as a standard part of the initial visit.

How Cases Are Diagnosed and Planned

The most common mistake Bold Bite sees in referring orthodontic cases is insufficient attention to oral hygiene and starting treatment before the patient is mentally or developmentally ready to participate in their own care. Dr. Greenberg's background in general dentistry before specializing gives the practice a clinical eye for cavity risk that many orthodontic settings overlook. Straight teeth matter; healthy teeth matter more.

On Pricing

Bold Bite's fee reflects what is included in the case, not just the appliance. Every case is personally managed by two residency-trained orthodontists and includes CBCT 3D imaging with airway screening, Grin Scope remote monitoring, and any functional appliances and retainers printed in-house, with no surprise add-on charges. The practice publishes its pricing and provides the exact fee in writing at the consultation. Because Angel Aligners use an orthodontist-only distribution model, the practice can price aligner treatment lower than Invisalign and pass that savings along directly to patients.

When Treatment Is Not Recommended

Bold Bite recommends against starting orthodontic treatment when a patient is not mentally ready, when oral hygiene is inadequate, or when the patient has not had a dental checkup and cleaning in over a year. The practice also holds off when starting treatment is not in the patient's best interest at that moment, such as when additional growth is needed first or when ENT, airway, or TMJ concerns should be addressed before moving teeth.

Treatments Others Don't Offer

Several Bold Bite services are difficult or impossible to find at typical Jacksonville orthodontic offices. Airway screening using CBCT with AI analysis is built into every consultation. The practice offers MARPE, a miniscrew-assisted palatal expander that widens the upper jaw in adults without surgery. Adult snoring and mild airway issues are addressed with a DynaFlex mandibular advancement device. And Angel Aligners, an orthodontist-only clear-aligner system most local practices do not carry, are available as the practice's primary aligner platform.

Practice Technology

Precision Tools for Faster, Better, More Comfortable Treatment

Bold Bite invested in the specific technologies that cut diagnostic guesswork, reduce treatment time, and eliminate avoidable office visits — not in showroom pieces for the lobby.

Vatech Green CT (Ultra-Low-Dose CBCT)

Full 3D imaging of teeth, jaws, airway, sinuses, and tooth roots in a single 14-second scan. The ultra-low-dose protocol uses a fraction of the radiation of most pediatric CBCT scanners. Every Bold Bite new-patient comprehensive exam includes a Vatech CBCT scan as part of the diagnostic workup. A standalone CBCT outside the exam workflow is $300.

iTero + Allied Star Digital Scanners

High-speed digital intraoral impressions with no goopy putty. Real-time 3D models drive Invisalign, Angel Aligners, and braces planning. Allied Star is a wireless scanner used as a secondary workflow for chairside rescans and records follow-up.

In-House 3D Printing

Retainers, custom bands, indirect bonding trays, patient fidget toys, and chairside appliance components are printed on-site. Same-day turnaround. No outsourcing, no shipping delays, no waiting weeks for a lab replacement when a retainer is lost.

Custom 3D-Printed Bands

Molar bands in most practices require a separate spacer appointment one week before bonding — a painful, temporary rubber wedge placed between teeth. Bold Bite’s custom-band workflow eliminates the spacer appointment entirely. Scanned, printed, and seated in a single visit.

Grin Scope AI Remote Monitoring

An FDA-registered remote-monitoring platform backed by the American Association of Orthodontists. Patients use the Grin Scope intraoral adapter to scan their teeth from home, and the practice reviews each scan through an AI treatment tracker. Bold Bite is the only practice in Jacksonville visibly promoting Grin Scope at this scale. Reduces in-office visits by up to 50%.

CBCT-Integrated Aligner Planning + AI Airway Screening

Every aligner case at Bold Bite is planned against the patient’s full Vatech CBCT dataset — not just the surface-level intraoral scan. AI-assisted airway screening runs on every new patient’s CBCT to flag adenoid hypertrophy, palatal constriction, or restricted pharyngeal airway early, with referral to pediatric ENT when indicated.

Why This Practice Is Different

10 Reasons Families Choose Bold Bite

Every claim below is verifiable. No vague promises, just specific advantages you won't find at other Jacksonville orthodontic practices.

A husband-wife orthodontic team who trained together at Boston University and Jacksonville University. Not a corporate chain, not a solo doctor working alone, not rotating associates. Two specialists on every case from day one.

Dr. Trang Cao is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) — a distinction held by fewer than half of orthodontists nationally. Dr. Greenberg is ABO Board Eligible with the clinical examination scheduled for Fall 2026.

8+ years of general dentistry experience before specializing — Dr. Greenberg brings whole-mouth clinical judgment to orthodontic decisions that a clinician who went straight from dental school into residency usually does not have.

Vatech Green CT scan included in every new-patient comprehensive exam — full 3D of teeth, jaws, airway, and sinuses as part of the diagnostic workup. A standalone CBCT outside the exam workflow is $300.

Highly conservative Phase 1 philosophy. Of hundreds of pediatric referrals received annually, approximately 75% are placed on monitored recall rather than starting immediate treatment. Bold Bite only recommends early treatment when waiting would cost more time, money, or surgical risk later.

Angel Aligners as the primary clear-aligner brand — not the default Invisalign-first approach of most Jacksonville practices. Dr. Greenberg ran 20 patient records through both ClinCheck (Invisalign) and iOrtho (Angel) and chose Angel for superior setups, more efficient movements, and faster case completion.

In-house 3D printing with custom bands — eliminates the separate spacer appointment most practices require. Patients save one visit, one week of wait time, and the pain of rubber spacer wedges.

Grin Scope remote monitoring included for every patient — Bold Bite is the only practice in Jacksonville visibly promoting Grin Scope at this scale. Reduces in-office visits by up to 50%.

Fluent Vietnamese and Spanish consultations. Dr. Cao is fluent in Vietnamese; the scheduling team includes a native Cuban Spanish speaker. Jacksonville’s Vietnamese and Spanish-speaking families get care in their preferred language — no translator required.

Florida-compliant refer-a-friend program. Florida law prohibits monetary patient-brokering (Patient Brokering Act, FS 817.505). Bold Bite’s non-monetary program uses hand-written thank-you notes and charitable donations in the referrer’s name — no rule-bending, no legal gray area.

What's Included

What Patients Receive at Bold Bite

A lower-priced alternative usually means fewer specialists, less technology, or hidden add-on fees that surface later. At Bold Bite, two residency-trained orthodontists personally plan and manage every case, not a general dentist who completed a weekend certification course or a remote service with no in-person exam. Every patient receives CBCT 3D imaging with airway screening, in-house 3D-printed appliances, and remote monitoring, all included in one transparent fee. The practice's position is that paying a fair price once and finishing well is a better outcome than saving up front and needing treatment redone.

Extended answering-service coverage runs Mon-Fri 8 AM-8 PM, Sat 9:30 AM-6 PM, Sun 9 AM-6:30 PM. Most minor issues can be stabilized with wax or a warm saltwater rinse until the next business day — see the Emergency Care page for step-by-step at-home guidance.
Emergency vs Comfort Care

Real Emergency or Comfort Issue?

Most orthodontic discomfort is not an emergency. Poky wires, mild aching, loose elastics, and minor irritation usually resolve at home with orthodontic wax, a warm saltwater rinse, or over-the-counter ibuprofen. These can wait until the next regular appointment.

Real emergencies are rare. A bracket stuck to a lip, or appliance breakage causing extreme pain or eating difficulty, warrants same-day care. Bold Bite Orthodontics holds same-day emergency slots during clinical hours, delivered under local anesthesia only.

The practice is not equipped with sedation. For severe trauma to teeth or jaw, a child in extreme distress, or any case requiring sedation, please call an emergency pediatric dentist, an oral surgeon, or 911. Bold Bite Orthodontics will happily provide follow-up care after acute stabilization. After-hours emergency access is reserved for active patients of the practice and depends on doctor availability (the doctor must be in town).

Broken appliances fall in between. If the break is causing pain or interfering with eating, treat it as an emergency and call. If the appliance is loose but tolerable, a comfort appointment at the next available slot is enough. The Emergency Care page walks through common situations step by step.

Most orthodontic emergencies can be stabilized at home with orthodontic wax, a warm saltwater rinse, or ibuprofen until the next business day — the Emergency Care page walks through the common situations step by step. If the problem is bigger than wax can handle, the Bold Bite team holds same-day emergency slots during clinical hours for active patients.
